Samuel Chu

Samuel came to Australia in 1975 to pursue his tertiary education. He graduated from the University of NSW with a Bachelor Degree in Optometry. He started his clinical practice in 1980 and has special interest in the control of myopia progression in young children.

Apart from his professional work, Samuel has always been active in community work. He has been a committed Lions member since 1996 to date and has played many key roles including President of Lions Club of Sydney Pacific Inc. (2004-2005), Lions District 201N5 Zone Chairman (2005-2007), Lions District 201N5 Region Chairman (2007-2010), Lions Club International Campaign SightFirst II 201N5 District Co-ordinator (2005-2008), Lions NSW and ACT Save-Sight and Public Health Care Foundation Director (2006-2012), Lions District 201 NSW co-ordinator of LEHP (Lions Eye Health Program) (2009-2010), Lions District 201N5 District Governor Advisor (2010-2011) and Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow in recognition of his contribution to Campaign SightFirst II

He is a committed Parkinson’s NSW Council Member (2007 to 2016) and a Board member of the Parkinson’s NSW Trust from 2016 to date. He is also a Foundation member and Trustee of Chinese Catholic Homes Ltd.

Samuel became a trustee of ACCF in 2009 and had served in various positions in the management committee, including Chairman of the Foundation from 2013 to 2016.

Samuel was awarded the Order of Australia Medallion (OAM) on Australian Day 2016 for his contribution to various community organisations.
