Maria Chan was born in Hong Kong and migrated to Sydney in 1977.
Once arriving into Australia, she quickly embraced Australian values, like volunteering and community involvement. In 1991, she organized a fundraising dinner to raise funds for a new Haemodialysis machine for Mater Hospital, North Sydney. The new machine reduced the time taken to purify blood and saved many people in the process.
Maria is an accountant and has worked in the airline, transport and hospitality industry. In her spare time, she learnt skills such as floristry, catering and balloon artistry which has helped in her fundraising events.
She continues to actively volunteer in many other charitable organisations and is currently: Chairperson of Dr. Jeremy Henson Cancer Cure Foundation, vice chairperson of Multicultural Community Council NSW, Vice President of Chinese Community Council of Australia, Director of Public Relation of Rotary Club of Chatswood International and part of the management committee of Australian Chinese Charity Foundation
